Ever since Galileo’s telescope, there have been some pretty big milestones when it comes to shaping the new face of telescopes. They started off on the ground looking at stars and nearby planets, and now we have telescopes that orbit earth and are looking for planets in other solar systems. So let’s briefly go over some of the more famous telescopes of the world that have helped scientists learn more about how everything works and came to be.

The Hubble

Probably the most famous telescope of all time – and has done more for astronomy and science than any other telescope that has been commissioned. The Hubble telescope was launched in 1990, and since it has been upgraded and worked on many times, recently had a major and final upgrade in 2010. For the longest time, the Hubble telescope was the most powerful telescope ever made orbiting around the Earth.

Spitzer Space Telescope

This magnificent telescope follows Earth around the sun, hanging out about 92,000,000 miles from us. What makes this telescope so unique that it acquires images in infrared instead of using direct light to view stuff. Also since it is so far away from Earth it misses all of the atmospheric distortion that other telescopes have to deal with.

The Kepler Mission

This is a massive telescope that is more than 5 astronomical units away from Earth. It’s main mission is to find stars that have planets that are similar to Earth. The Kepler telescope will stare at more than 100,000 stars for a period of 3.5 years, or up to 6 years, and hopefully by the end of the mission we will have a better idea of how common earthlike planets are in our galaxy.

As we progress in technology we can only expect the future is going to hold some of the most extraordinary telescopes that we could have only dreamed about. Even though we have telescopes orbiting the planet, on top of the highest mountains, there is still a lot of space out there that is not visible and cannot be monitored, this is where the amateur astronomers come in to play, so do some research, buy a telescope, and join the fun of discovering new things in space.

Space is filled with mystery and it is a place that many of us only dream of travelling to. We never know if that dream is going to come true, but in the meantime, we can look up at the night sky through the eyes of a telescope. This device will give you a closer look at the moon, stars and various planets. There are so many different types, so buying telescopes is not as easy as you think it is. It is also important to realize that the best is not always the one that is the most expensive or the biggest. The best will be the one you plan on using the most. In the paragraphs below, we are going to tell you more information on this topic.

First of all, you should not just go out there and purchase the first gadget you see. You need to read up on the different ones before you make your decision. There are some popular astronomy magazines out there that you should start reading. Those magazines are a great place to get an expert opinion on the type of telescope you should purchase.

Secondly, before you purchase this device, you need to think about where you will be placing it one you get it. Once you figure out where you will be placing it, make sure you measure the area and don’t get anything that is too big for that area. For those of you that plan on carrying ti around and travelling a bit, then you should purchase one that is easy to transport and put together.

The mounting should also meet your needs. The less money you have to spend on the mounting, the more money you will have to put towards the optics.

You should also consider whether or not this is going to be a hobby that is going to last forever. If you are just purchasing one of these for the children, then you may not want to spend too much, until you find out if the children are going to like it. So, with kids, it may be best to start small and see if this hobby is going to grow.

You also need to determine exactly what you would like to see with this device. You can get one that will view just the planets or you could get one for deep sky viewing.

Of course, you need to figure out a budget. If you do not come up with a budget, you could end up spending more than you can afford. You may also want to consider looking for a used telescope, which can be just as good, as long as it has been taken care of. If you purchase it from a dealership, find out whether it is under warranty and for hours long. If you intend on travelling around with it, then you should consider insurance.

Buying telescopes can take a lot of research in order to find the right one. However, once you find the one that fits your needs, you will spend hours gazing up at the mysterious stars.

Everyone that wants to get into astronomy wants to get the cheapest telescope possible, and just because the box that the cheap telescope comes in, says that you will be able to view planets and galaxies, don’t hold your breathe on that thinking that you are going to get a good view when you are only willing to invest $50 into that telescope.

You can ask any expert out there, that if you are not willing to spend at least $500 on a telescope, then you are more than likely going to be disappointed with your purchase. But then again, many of the stargazing experts suggest that if you are on a budget, then to invest in a pair of astronomy binoculars first, as you will be more pleased with the results and views that you get, for what it’s worth that is.

Plus this will give you a chance to get to know how to use star charts, and how to plot when the planets in our solar system are most likely to be visible. I have already talked about all the types of telescopes that are out there, and depending on how serious you are about stargazing, will determine how much money that you are willing to put into the hobby.

First thing you have to decide is what are you expecting to do with your first telescope. If you want to get into astrophotography, and submit your photos to magazines such as Astronomy Magazine, then you are looking at investing a couple thousand dollars, but believe me, the images and pictures of the stars that you will be able to get will make them well worth it.

Another thing to consider when purchasing your first telescope, is the location of where you will be using the telescope the most. If you live in a populated city with lots of lights, you are only setting yourself up for failure, as the light pollution will do nothing but frustrate you. If you are out in the country, or on the mountains, you will see that there are thousands of more visible stars from the naked eye than there are in the city.

I hope that this clears up questions that you are having when looking for a cheap telescope for sale. Don’t get me wrong, it is possible to get a good telescope for cheap, but it is going to take some ground work, and more than likely you will be buying it used, this is where the bargains come in. From people that used to be big into astronomy, and for one reason or another lost the passion for it, and want to get a little bit of money for there telescope.

You may get lucky and find a good cheap telescope for sale at your local flea market, or maybe even a yard sale down the road from you. There are also lots of people putting up their unused telescopes on internet auction sites, while if you are checking daily, you will be sure to find a great bargain on a telescope for sale sooner or later.

Now I have done a lot of research on buying telescopes, and there are many factors that come into play when you are out looking for a nice telescope for sale. For starters, you have to know how much you are willing to spend on the telescope, and you should have a good idea about what it is that you are going to be viewing. Now you can read all the documentation you want on the internet, but the best way to decide what kind of telescope it is that you want to buy, is to start gazing the stars, join an astronomy club, read reviews, and most importantly, make friends with all the telescope geeks that you can.

But for starters, many people will recommend starting off with a good pair of astronomy binoculars. The main reason for this is that they are cheaper than telescopes, and you can get some amazing views from them, once you learn how to pinpoint the objects that are out there in the night sky. For instance if you are on a budget of around $200, then you may want to forget getting a telescope for the time being, and instead invest them in a pair of astronomy binoculars, as you are going to be able to see a lot more in the night sky with a $200 pair of astronomy binoculars compared to a $200 telescope.

Now if you can find someone selling a used telescope for $200, then you may be in luck, depending on how desperate they are to get rid of it. But if you must go out and have your heart set on finding a telescope for sale today, then head the warnings that I have seen in so many other articles that are out there. That is do not buy a telescope because of the power rating, just don’t do it, if you do you are going to be very, if not extremely disappointed in your purchase. Just because it says that it is 500X Power, does not mean that it is a good telescope by any means. It is the Aperture that makes the telescope good.

The aperture is the diameter of the lens in a refractor telescope or the mirror in the reflector telescope. I have already told you the difference between the two telescopes in previous entries so you should be on top of that, if not you can find them by searching the tags on this site.

If you are buying a telescope online, then get as much information about it as you can. If you go to a site such as eBay or Amazon to buy a telescope, sometimes you can find some killer deals, but it is always smart to read the reviews of the telescope before purchasing. Don’t expect to be seeing images like the ones that you see in the Astronomy magazine, unless you are planning on spending some big bucks, like $1500 or more.

Since I was a child I was fascinating with looking up and gazing at the night sky, seeing all of the stars, and always wondered just how much stars and other stuff is out there. When I was 6 my dad found me a cheap telescope for sale at a local pawn shop, and from then on, I was hooked on astronomy. The thing about astronomy and viewing the night sky is, that the average person does not really know how huge it is out there, and how small our puny little world is compared to the rest of the cosmos.

Those that live in the city will rarely get to see the full view of the night sky light up, unless they leave the city where these is less light pollution. Everything from street lights to car lights, will pollute the air with light, making stars and planets less visible. So being that I was growing up in the city, I really didn’t have too much fun with my new telescope as I would have liked. It was only until I got out into the country mountains of Georgia, nowhere near civilization that I could truly appreciate the night sky and use my telescope to view the stars and even other galaxies.

But what exactly is out there in the clear night sky that makes astronomers so fascinated by using their telescopes? Just think that we are on the outskirts of the Milky Way galaxy, which is estimated to have 3 billion stars or more, some of them just like our sun, some of them 1000’s of times more massive than our sun, and we just keep spinning in a circle around the center of the milky way, which holds a massive black hole, which is probably around the same size as earth (hasn’t been proven by no means), but is millions of times more dense, if not more.

This is just one galaxy, out of billions, and billions, and it is estimated that it is around 14 billion years old. Talk about something sticking around for a long time. So next time that you are out on a clear night, take the time to think about what is really up there. If you want to take a closer look at what is really up there, then you may want to invest in a cheap pair of astronomy binoculars, and then take it even a step further and start looking for telescopes for sale.

Astronomy is definitely not for everybody, but for those that want to take on a new hobby, especially those that are not surrounded by light pollution from big cities, then you may want to invest in a telescope and open up your eyes and get a closer look at what is around you.

The Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope is a combination of the refractor and reflector telescopes. Most of them are computerized with there own star tracking system, they are also the most ideal telescope for astrophotography.

The Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope is most often referred to as a “go to” telescope. They are computerized with pre-loaded maps of star charts, so it makes finding a certain star or star field much easier. Most Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescopes come with a built in camera so they are great for astrophotography.

If you are serious about viewing the night sky and want to snap some amazing photos than go with a Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope. As you may have noticed these types of telescopes can become very high tech, although some of these are simpler thatn others are.

If you are just getting into astronomy, then this may not be the best kind of scope to start off with, you may want to go with a refractor or something cheaper. If you are good at programming and understand how to read star maps, then this is for you as they are great at pin pointing exactly which galaxy, or certain star that you want to view.

As you might have guessed these are not going to be the cheapest telescopes out there, but if you are really serious about star gazing, and taking pictures of the galaxies that are way out there and far away, then this is the best telescope for you. I would not recommend this for beginners though, you might want to learn where some of the stars and other great sites are in our night sky before you spend a fortune on this type of telescope.

A good telescope for the beginning astronomer is the reflector telescope, which was invented by newton in the 17th century. The reflector telescope gathers light through multiple mirrors, hence the name “reflecting”. They are commonly a little bit less expensive than the refractor telescopes, but then again it all depends on how big and quality of a telescope you are using. These telescopes are great for viewing distant objects like constellations and other galaxies, due to the design of the light gathering.

Now if you are looking to find a reflector telescope for sale there are plenty of places to where you can start looking. It may come into a thing about where you are located at. If you are in the United States and are located in the city, there are less likely to be more telescope shops that are around as there may not be as many serious stargazers around. But they are all around, no matter where you are you can always get your hands on reflector telescopes for sale, so not to worry.

That is one of the great things about modern technology, particularly the internet as there are literally hundreds if not thousands of websites that are out there that have telescopes for sale. One of the big ones that not many people think about to look for reflecting telescopes for sale is eBay. Of course there are many other sites that are out there and can be found by searching in your favorite search engine.

But if you are just getting into astronomy and want to see some detail on the moon then this is more than likely the best telescope choice for the beginner, in my opinion anyway others may disagree though, as with anything.

If you want to see the planets and the distant stars than you will need to find a telescope for sale. Telescopes tell us a lot about what is way out there in space since we can channel in on the stars and just by the light that they reflect we can learn so much from them. There are lots of neat things you can view with a telescope, get a close up of the moons craters, view the rings around Saturn, get a close up of our solar systems gas giant Jupiter, view nearby comets and much more.

Open your eyes up to the night sky and see whats really out there. Think about it, when you look into a telescope, depending on how powerful the lens is, you are looking thousands or possibly billions of years in the past. The light you are seeing from stars could be that old depending on how many light years they are away from earth.

Every year our technology is advancing, and the scientists are getting smarter, and richer, and they have the money and technology to make modified telescopes that keep getting better. These days it is very easy to get a great quality telescope for a little over a hundred bucks, where about ten years ago they would cost a thousand or so.

The telescope was invented in the early 1600’s, and its popularity quickly spread around throughout the European countries. Probably the first idea of the telescope was thought up Lippershey, who was a dutch spectacle maker.

On day outside of Lippersheys shop a couple of kids were playing around with some lenses, and they put two of them together, seeing that when they looked through the image was greatly enhanced. Then Lippershey tried it, he had mounted the two lenses together into what he had called “a looker”.

He tried to sell off his invention to the military, but lots of others had claimed that it ahd already been invented, although no current records show any proof of this. The invention had quickly spread, and it eventually reached the Italian Scientists by the name of Galileo, who modified Lipersheys “looker” into a telescope. Galileos telescope that he had invented was of the refractive type.
